Today’s Coffee Tasting was super amazing! Here’s my notes.

Brew Method: French Press

Coffee: Finca El Molino
Country: El Salvador
Region: Ahuachapan, Sonsonate
Farm: Finca El Molina
Merchant: Pt’s Coffee Roasting Co.
Location: Topeka Kansas
My Rating: 5 out of 5 (Coffee Cellar App)

My preparation notes:

What a beautiful Coffee

CoffeeHouse: TastingThePlanet’s CoffeeTasting Imaginarium

Aroma: Sweet, Orange, hmm Potpourri
Body: Light-Creamy, Crisp
Flavor: Sweet Cocoa, a very slight tart-wine
Sweetness: A very slight citrus (Pt’s Online Cup profile says ‘Naval Orange’ I am not
that awesome yet – Always room for opportunities of tasting growth)
Aftertaste: Cocoa
Acidity: High Acidity

Tongue Experience:
The first thing I notice when slurping is the sweet & tart wine-like blows up both sides of my tongue in the near back. Then I notice the wonderful slightly cocoa-creamy body in the whole middle of my tongue with the simi-sweet cocoa, ever so softy playing with the tip of my tongue. As I drip down the rest of my demitasse there is a wonderful aftertaste of lingering cocoa on the back of my tongue and throat. Even though this coffee has high acidity (crisp- clean- twist – pop – NO bitter aftertaste) I would not say it is has the highest acidity – (If I remember correctly, in contrast to my all time favorite, El Salvador Pacamara has a higher acidity). But it works so well for this bean.

My Paring Thoughts:
Cranberry/Orange muffin or scone. Milk Chocolate. Light breakfast of eggs & english muffin with orange marmalade. Bowl of granola cereal with dried fruit like craisins. I would even enjoy this with a nice spring mix salad with feta cheese- orange slices, and raspberry vinaigrette dressing, of sprayed orange juice.

My Taste Profile

Interesting fact:
A few years ago, famed coffee producer Aida Battle was working with Jose Antonio when they discovered this new and mysterious natural mutation. Aida convinced Jose to separate out this unique phenomenon to form the Orange Bourbon lot. The Orange Bourbon cupping results were a huge success, and since their discovery, Finca El Molino has continued to sort and separate this lot for PT’s Coffee and a few other select roasters.” – Pt’s Coffee Online. www.PtsCoffee.com

Pt’s Cupping Profile
(When there’s a Roaster’s Cupping Profile available I like to add it, after I do my tasting profile, as a contrasting tool to gauge my tasting growth progress and maintenance – Sometimes I’m right on with their profile, and there have been times that I’ve really missed the mark. Pt’s is really awesome about having the profiles online, so I’m going to share it below.)

Aroma: 8.5 Floral, Orange Bourbon
Body: 8.5 Creamy, Smooth
Flavor: 9.0 Semi-Sweet Chocolate
Sweetness: 9.0 Naval Orange
Aftertaste: 8.5 Lingering, Cocoa
Acidity: 8.0

If you have a coffee tasting profile, please share feel free to share to with me. If you have a coffee that you would like me to taste, let me know here, or email me if you’re a roaster and would like to send me a coffee to taste. SamuelWConnelly@Gmail.com .

As a student of coffee, I have added a few things to my Tasting Profile, that you may not. You may have notes you like to use that I don’t. It’s all good and right, as long as you do have an understanding of the essentials. Your educational journey, and how you get to know the world of coffee better is your journey. If you’re learning, if you’re continuing to grow, if you’re consistent in your pursuit of coffee education and tasting, then you’re right where you should be.

If I leave work right now, I can make it to El Salvador this afternoon. Save some of that brew for me?
